Great book this was originally written anonymously by Daniel Defoe. This is the devils account of certain stories and events in The Bible. Defoe as The Devil also rails against Milton's Paradise Lost in a very comical way. Fortunately a few friends and I read an antique copy of the book once a week together. We laughed and discussed certain paragraphs and the meanings. Our copy was written in Old English and added to the fun and challenge. The telling of Lucifers dealings with Eve was probably my favorite chapter in the book. Reading Defoe's account made me want to read Milton's poetic & prosaic, Paradise Lost. If this is you sort of thing you definitely will enjoy this in eBook too!

History of the Devil

This book has a lot of interesting information and history. However, there are parts where the author seems to indicate that all that occured in the past was on a path to where we are now, and that where we are now is the final stop in Mankind's theological development. The book is a bit skewed to Christian ideals being the only true ones. At least, that is what I perceived. I wish I could point out to the author that perhaps where we are now is just another milestone on a longer path. At any rate, there were many jewels in this book and it was educational and thought provoking.

Good Comic Series

I enjoyed this comic series. The only reason it does not have 5 stars is because navigating the ebook version is difficult. When you change a page you can click on the first panel and it enlarges, then you swipe till the end of the panels on that page. But you have to manually exit out of the panel, swipe to the next page, and the open the first panel again. The storyline is easy to follow with a few plot holes that fill in as you go along, and like the first volume, it ends on a cliff hanger.

An impressive continuation of amazing story.

"During the war I thought surviving would be enough. But surviving is the easy part."

After escaping from the house of the Cumaean, Maika travels through Zamora to get to the other side of the wall, to meet her friend Tuya on the Arcanic lands. But Maika doesn't know that she's followed by the people who want the piece of the mask she stole and she still doesn't fully grasp what's happening to her, when a strange hunger overcomes her. Determined to find out the secrets connected to her mother and the mask, she won't stop before she finds the truth.

With issue 2 of Monstress we're picking up the story where issue 1 ended and once again, I was drawn in to the fascinating, cruel world created by Marjorie Liu. A few new characters are introduced and we learn a bit more about the world of Zamora and Maika. I'm reallu curious to pick up the next issues and find out more about her secret transformations and the mythology behind the world - especially the mysterious ghosts.

The artwork was once again outstanding. The amount of details and the effort it must have taken to create such stunning illustrations is incredible. In this issue there was quite a few scenes during the night and I absolutely loved how they were portrayed, with brilliants colours and art. There was quite a lot of violence in here but I like how the action scenes were drawn.

At the end the comic has some helpful and fun additional material, which includes little "history lesson" about the world created in the story, fan letters and photos, excerpts from the script of this issue, as well as the sneak peek from issue 3. I thought they all made a nice addition, giving us a little view "behind the scenes".

I can't wait to pick up issue 3 and see where it's going to take us :)

Love the story progression

Another wonderful issue with more beautiful art. In this issue, Maika awakes to find herself traveling and still full of questions. This issue was about half the length of the first so there was not a lot of plot movement but we do end on a cliff-hanger as Maika encounters a woman hunting her. This again was another mysterious issue, more question about who or what Maika actually is.

I love the detail again in this issues images - there are less settings and more people that are showcased but their clothing and motions are just as elaborately done as the settings in the last installment. I am really loving this series so far.

I don't want to say too much more at this point because I don't want to spoil any more of the story for those of you who want to read it, but even though there are a lot of questions I have about this character and the plot I think it is well worth reading for the images alone. So wonderful.

Use this in conjunction with the Science text book! Wonderful homeschool tool!

I am SO happy I decided to purchase this book. It was full of color and it kept my 10 yr old son's attention. We use it in conjunction with our Science text book to further learn about what we are studying at the time. For example, we were studying cells and we just looked up what they had about cells in the book and it really helped my son understand more about cells. Love it! Would recommend this to homeschooling parents out there who could use this in addition to the actual book. Will be ordering the Geometry one as well!

My son loves Science and reading. He pointed out to me that on Page 37 under title Metals and sub title "More Valuable than Gold" - Fahrenheit to Celsius conversion is incorrect. It shows 2919 degree Fahrenheit or 1064 degree Celsius. Actually 2919 degree Fahrenheit is equal to 1604 degree Celsius. I hope the publisher will not make such mistakes in the future.

Great Homeschooling Resource

Oftentimes, in homeschooling, science opportunities present themselves outside of the regular curriculum - field trips, experiment kits from grandma, etc. I find that during those impromptu science lessons, it helps to read about the science topic to build understanding. This science encyclopedia has been a great go-to resource for those readings!

Just like the name suggests, it's an encyclopedia. So...all I have to do is browse the table of contents quickly and turn to the appropriate pages for a quick, yet thorough, overview of the topic at hand. Like all DK book, it's VERY visual and colorful to both hold my children's attention and give them high-interest images to associate with the science.

In 300+ pages, the encyclopedia covers a lot of scientific ground - matter, materials, forces and machines, energy, light, electricity and magnetism, living organisms, and great discoveries. (There are a few pages that discuss evolution in the living organisms and great discoveries sections.)

While I pull this book out myself when I need to fill in lessons with science information, my children pull it out on their own for pleasure reading! It's a winner!

PLEASE READ... CHANGED MY LIFE & IT WILL HOPEFULLY CHANGE YOURS!

This booked helped me to wake up and realize that we all have a purpose & we are all unique in our own IMAGE. Society & TV has brain washed most of us today into thinking we need to look a certain way or be like someone else. God made us UNIQUE and we all have a shine of our own. It sometimes takes a book like this to realize how "simply marvelous" as Miles would say we all really are.
Here's a small part of the book that touched me...
"We're designed to actively pursue and reflect the glory of God through our lives. Like diamond's, we can only reflect the light that shines onto us; we have no twinkle of our own. The only light shinning onto our image, our spiritual diamond is the light of God's glory which is projected onto us each and every day. So I go back to my original question. Do you know what God expects to see when He looks at you? What is he seeing right now?"

Look at yourself, do you reflect God's image

God does not want you to blend in, to be like someone else, HE created you for the sake of you. HE wants your image to reflect HIM and HIS will towards your life. We are all different, for that is how the Lord made us. This book explains all that in a simple, concise way, with personal testimony from Miles, as well as common everyday stories we can relate to.

Highly recommend you place this book next to your Bible.
