The Second Book Of The Ship Modeling Foundation

The only reason I didn't give this book 5 stars is due to the dated writing, which is sometimes distracting. If not for that, it's 5 stars!!
A must for you if you're just beginning, like me. The author explains everything very well. Not only how things work, but why they work. His specifics about construction are excellent, if only for those who are curious about sailing vessels. His charts are wonderful for answering questions about construction and cutting before the cut is made. He really gets down to the nuts and bolts.
I don't agree that this book is not for the beginner. I'm a beginner, and I have learned much from this book, and continue to reinforce that knowledge with the book. If you be a beginning builder, a student of sailing vessels, or just plain curious about the subject, get this book. Remember, it reads a bit differently then more current books, but you'll smile at that fact, and get the benefit of the knowledge imparted within.

Introduction to the built-up ship model

Detailed sequential instruction on constructing the built-up ship model. Accurate lists of the various countries' mast rules, including tops, heads, trestletrees etc, and rope & block dimensions, ensure that your model will look like the real thing and not a misproportioned eyesore.
There are lots of hints and tips to making the rigging and the ground tackle (capstans, bitts, winches, anchors) look real, including correct proportions of gunports.
The book does assume that you have an accurate drawing to work from and with this in mind it is a welcome addition to anyone's library. My only complaints are that there should be more detail on planking, and some of the drawings are a tad small, obscuring the detail.

Great overview on guitars and amps

The 2009 Official Vintage Guitar Magazine Price Guide is a great overview on todays vintage and comtempory guitars and amps. Though I think some prices are rated a bit too high and some are a bit too low you get a pretty good idea about prices. When you intend to buy, also use other sources to check you pay the right price. This is a very nice reference.

A Good resource for the Guitar Aficionado or Collector

The book is updated for 2009. And it correctly shows the collector market taking a downturn for 2009. It is quite comprehensive and covers most makes of guitars. It would be difficult to list every guitar made but I was a bit disappointed to discover many brands are simply listed with a short one liner. I expect a comprehensive guide to at least describe the types of guitars those makers produce if not values of each.
Overall there is a lot of information where you need it. Fender and Gibson USA are covered in great detail with all years and appointments for every model I've ever owned and many of the quite rare and unique.
This is THE guide to own if you will be buying, selling, appraising or collecting guitars at a very reasonable price.

Dr Franks then settles into a number of chapters on the physics and chemistry of the frozen state. This is crucial to a good understanding of freeze drying and especially formulation development for freeze drying, and there can be few people who could discuss this topic more eloquently or thoroughly than the author. The strengths of this work are unsurprisingly in the thorough treatment of the frozen state and an understanding of the amorphous state both in terms of formulation and freeze drying process design and also the discussion of the study/prediction of product stability. This book is a very useful and thorough overview of the process in operation during freezing and lyophilisation and should be read by all those who are interested in freeze drying and pharmaceutical formulation design.
